  Qutub Minar: History, Architecture and the Story Behind Delhi’s Famous Tower Delhi has many historical monuments, but Qutub Minar is probably one of the most impressive among them. The tall red and brown sandstone tower can be seen from a distance and attracts thousands of visitors every year. Its beautiful carvings and unusual design makes it a very interesting place for history lovers. History of Qutub Minar The construction of Qutub Minar began in the late 12th century. Qutb-ud-din Aibak , the founder of the Mamluk or Slave Dynasty, started building the minar around 1199. However, he only completed the first storey before his death.
